WHATS ON IN 2008

2007 was a disastrous year for the club – rain, mud and foot and mouth disease conspired against us each time we tried to organise an event. It is a year we will try to forget, and so we are now looking forward to 2008 with a great deal of hope (and just a little trepidation!!)  This recent bout of sunshine has been a chance to re-charge our batteries and to start planning the year ahead.

We have a few changes planned for this year.  Our show site has been moved to Whiddon Down, and the show will be later in July than usual.

As you all know – Louise Taylor resigned as Club Secretary last year due to the huge amount of work she found herself left to cope with.  However, with a re-shuffle of responsibilities between the other committee members she has agreed to stay on as a committee member.  The rest of us are hugely grateful for this, as she has such a wealth of knowledge about the running of the shows and the many people we rely on to make the shows run smoothly.

Our fortnightly group lessons have continued through the winter, although we have had to cancel a couple of sessions due to a combination of lame horses, lame riders, holidays etc, etc.  With the change of season we are moving the sessions back to mid-week evenings for the summer, starting on Tuesday 1st April 6pm or 7pm.

We have two pleasure rides this spring to make up for the one we had to cancel last Autumn – our first is on Sunday 30th March starting from Mardon Down, and the second will be on Sunday 11th May starting from Tedburn St Mary.  We hope to see you at both!

Pleasure Rides -  we are planning two pleasure rides this spring to make up for the disappointments of 2007.  Start between 10am and 12 noon.

Our first ride will be starting from Mardon Down on Sunday 30th March – this is the first day of British Summer time so remember to check your watches!!!! The ride will start ant time between 10 am and 12 noon.   This will take us on our usual annual route from Mardon Down towards Steps Bridge, then back to Clifford Bridge and an optional additional route leading to Fingle Bridge, then back up to Cranbrook Castle and back through the woods.  The scenery is stunning!

Our second ride will be starting from Tedburn St Mary on Sunday 11th May  - this will take us through our usual annual route through Oldridge Woods and Newton Woods.  Once again – the ride takes us through some wonderful countryside with plenty of chances for a good gallop.

Our autumn pleasure ride will be on Sunday 5th October and will be starting from Mardon Down (same route as 30th March).

Fortnightly lessons – these are held at South Lendon Farm near Tedburn St Mary by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Palfrey.  Our instructor is Michael Van Houben

With the change of season we are moving the sessions back to mid-week evenings for the summer, starting on Tuesday 1st April 6pm or 7pm.   We welcome everyone to come along and join us.  We will try to tailor the sessions to your individual needs – just come and talk to us if there is anything you particularly want help with, or if you are aiming towards a particular goal.  These sessions are non-profit making but we try to have a small float to cover those sessions where we don’t have enough people to cover costs.  Therefore we have agreed we will have to increase our charges to £15 hour for a group lesson. We usually have both flatwork and jumping sessions.  We may be able to provide ½ hour individual lessons if required.

Ring either Louise Taylor on 01647 61202 or Vivien Stephens on 01392 432719 for further details or to book.
